Things That Scare Me

The Fairies and Elves Art group is doing a coffee table sized chunky. This is the first chunky I've done in this size and it was a lot of fun and a nice change to work in this larger size. The theme, Things that Scare Me has to include a fairy of some sort. I decided to do a fairy being scared and found a lot of cool clip art for my images. The background paper is from the free paper in Somerset Studio and when I saw it, I knew it was perfect! The blue skull is cut from fabric and my fairy fit perfectly on top. The little tombstone is a wooden doll house shingle. Won't the final chunky be fun?

Fabric Inchies

My on-line friend, Tammy, is hosting a fabric inchies swap. They are really inch and a halfies, as sewing on a one inch square is quite challenging! I had a lot of fun with these, especially using the retro fabric for the background. When they are cut into individual pieces, the fabric gives each one a different look. Then the fun part...embellishing! Thank you, Tammy, for another fab swap!

Victorian Art Doll

I always thought dolls were kind of goofy..what's the point? Then I bought Somerset's Art Doll Quarterly and my whole concept changed. Wow! So, of course, I had to try to make some. I've made a couple of paperdolls, a big felted doll and a smaller felted doll. I decided to try one using a book for the skirt. I whacked a book in half, no easy task, and folded the pages to create the skirt. Then I just went to town dressing her. She was a ton of fun to make and guess what, I still have the other half of the book!

For August, the quiltie themes are "Things with Wings" and "Shades of Red". For the wings quilitie, I made wings out of wire and Fantasy Film and attached them to the paper head. Of course, since I'm a sucker for anything Asian, I had to use the Asian theme in my red quiltie. These quiltie swaps are so much fun! I have a beautiful wall hanging with the quilties I've received..20 of them so far!

Birds

My Birds Quiltie is another September entry. We've been all a twitter in the Fabric In Altered Art group about "doodle birds", so no surprise, I had to do a doodle bird. I drew the bird on muslin, painted it with Lumiere and sprayed the background with Adirondack Color Wash. All this talk about birds has made them show up in my work a lot lately!

Shades of Yellow

The September themes for the quilties swaps include "Shades of Yellow". I fussy cut the sunflowers and backed the paper faces with Angelina Fibers. I love sunflowers and when I saw this fabric in my stash, I knew I wanted to do something with it.
