Altho the picture is not so hot...the colors are off, they are much more gold and orange...she represents the Fall Season. I named her Golden Spell because I used some paint chip samples for part of her dress and one was named Golden Spell. Using a book for her skirt is so much fun, I never know how she's going to turn out. Her wings are store bought sheer wings that I painted with Lumiere and sparkley stuff. We are each doing 2 pages. I decided to do a vintage page with the image of a lovely lady all decked out for Halloween. For the second page, I remembered that Harry Houdini died on Oct. 31 and that he told his wife that after he died, he'd try to contact her every year on that date. For 10 years, his widow held a seance, but Harry never showed. Although she stopped holding the seances after 10 years, groups of Houdini fans still hold the event. I thought his story would make an interesting and different Halloween page.

Altered Poker Chips

An on-line friend is hosting an altered poker chips swap. This is the first chunky I've done in this size and it was a lot of fun and a nice change to work in this larger size. The theme, Things that Scare Me has to include a fairy of some sort. I decided to do a fairy being scared and found a lot of cool clip art for my images. The background paper is from the free paper in Somerset Studio and when I saw it, I knew it was perfect! The blue skull is cut from fabric and my fairy fit perfectly on top. The little tombstone is a wooden doll house shingle. Then I bought Somerset's Art Doll Quarterly and my whole concept changed. Wow! So, of course, I had to try to make some. I've made a couple of paperdolls, a big felted doll and a smaller felted doll. I decided to try one using a book for the skirt. I whacked a book in half, no easy task, and folded the pages to create the skirt. Then I just went to town dressing her. She was a ton of fun to make and guess what, I still have the other half of the book!

For August, the quiltie themes are "Things with Wings" and "Shades of Red". We're doing what house and home means to us. This is my submission...the little pocket holds 6 tags with words that mean home to me...comfort, security, love, blessings, heritage and family. I seem to always have my family's ancestors in the back of mind and I wanted to try to honor them with a vintage look. The background of this piece is a page from the phone book, aged with glazes and inks. I think it will a lot of fun to see what the other particiapants do with this great theme.

Storms

We're having a much needed rain right now, it's been so dry here. We were assigned partners and my partner, Debbie, sent an unbelieveable box of stuff! There is so much in there, that I had to make a place for all of it and ended up spending the whole day cleaning and orgainizing "the room". Found stuff I'd forgotten all about. Debbie sent some beautiful fabrics, vintage things, charms..just so cool! Tonight, I'm going to go thru my paper scrap box and thin that out a little bit. Who knows what's hiding in there!

My New Blog

Well, I did it..my on-line friend, Stacie, encouraged me to set up a blog. Please be patient, as I haven't a clue as to what I'm doing! I chose my blog name, Trees of the Fields, from one of my favorite Scriptures, Isaiah 55:12. I just love the thought of the mountains bursting into song and the trees clapping their hands. In fact, I used this scripture for one of my journal quilts thru the FabricInAlteredArt group...a wonderful group!
